Sarclad Hike Raises over £2k for Turkish & Syrian Earthquake
Sarclad raises aid for Earthquake Victims
On 17 March, 25 Sarclad employees answered the call of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) in hopes to bring awareness and support to those affected by the two earthquakes which impacted southern Turkiye (Turkey) and northern Syria in February 2023.
Sarclad has a strong network of customers and contacts in Turkey and even had a team on the ground in Turkey at the time the earthquake struck. Knowing that emergencies like this call for a group effort, the Sarclad employees were quick to help in the ways that they could.
These twenty-five employees challenged themselves to a 10-mile (16km) hike in the stunning surroundings of the Peak District’s Hope Valley. The hike was organized by Alan Breeze, Project Manager at Sarclad, who not only handled the logistics of the hike, but who also partnered with the DEC and OXFAM to ensure that funds were properly delivered.
The DEC’s website shares that: “In Turkiye (Turkey) more than 350 mobile kitchens and 86 catering trucks were deployed to provide food for people in the weeks after the earthquake. As it happened during the winter, the Turkish Red Crescent aimed to deliver over 50,000 blankets, 10,000 electric heaters, 25,000 sleeping bags, and 25,000 beds to the region.” The group of Sarclad employees are happy that their donations are being used to help bring relief to those affected and that their hike is spreading the news that even locally driven events can help those who need it most during this time.
Alan, who came up with the idea of the sponsored hike comments, ‘’I was very impressed with the Sarclad team who pulled together to support this emergency. We are really delighted to have raised over £2k for the relief campaign so far and would welcome further donations.’’ Members of Sarclad’s leadership team shared that they are “happy to support this worthy cause & we send best wishes to all affect by this disaster. We are very proud of everyone who completed this challenging walk - well done to all the team!”.
